Into the Wild Movie Reflection

I personally thought Into the Wild had a good message and was a good movie. The main character was Christopher McCandless aka Alexander Supertramp it was his story about the wild. There was part of the movie I did not enjoy because they made no sense and it didn't fit in the movie. I understood that he wanted freedom and he was unhappy with his relationship with parents especially because he had no independence. He also didn't’t like the thought of money making you successful. He also didn't enjoy being near the people around him (except his sister). I thought that his trip to Alaska was both reckless and exciting. It was reckless because he didn't know how live in the wild by himself, also it was dangerous since it was his first time there and he had no prior knowledge of the wild. The trip was exciting because he went to many different places and he could finally have independence.  Also he meets different people who change his perspective of the wild and life. When he meets the people on his way to Alaska whom tell him that he should follow his heart and that is what gave him the strength and confidence to continue on to Alaska. His perspective at first was very optimistic and he was enjoying the beauty of the wild. The wild was a haven to him a place where he would be happy. As he learned to hunt animals, how to gather food, find a shelter or build one, find water etc. He felt satisfaction in his work. His perspective change when he ate the poisonous peas. He was in pain and felt very lonely.  He had tried to go home because there was nothing left for him in the wild and he was afraid and alone. The movie did change my perspective of the wild slightly it showed how it was peaceful, calm, and beautiful. But it also explains how in the wild it is difficult to survive in and how a simple mistake can harm you. People go into the wild for solitude, enjoyment, and to learn about nature. We need the wilderness because it gives animals’ shelter and food and it provides materials that we need to live.

Rock Climbing (The Edge and Cliffhanger)

Rock Climbing
Rock climbing was a tough but interesting activity. It was hard but satisfying the highest route I climbed was 5.10 it was exhausting. On that route I did use other rocks but I mainly use the 5.10. After that I had no energy at all. Anything below 5.10 is something I can do. I climbed mainly 5.6 - 5.8.  My favourite part of climbing was bouldering. Rock climbing was difficult and I will build on it the next time I go climbing. I learned many new techniques and strategies in climbing as well.

Sailing

Sailing
Sailing was a great opportunity and was very excited to have the chance to do so because I have never been sailing before. Even though we got double booked I had a great time and gain a valuable skill set. Sailing was very fun and I learn about the sailing terms and the names of the different parts of the boats. Getting the boat to speed up and catch the wind was hard, but when the boat sped up it was really fun. We first have to set the boat up by moving it toward the water and then putting the rudder on and opening the sail. The first time sailing was difficult, but gradually it got easier. I enjoyed sailing and hope to build on the skills I learned in the future.

Camp Reflection

          Camp Elphinstone Reflection

I had a great time at Camp Elphinstone there were lots of fun activities to do. We went on a nature walk, doing a obstacle course, swimming, exploring the beach, had a campfire and sang songs, went on a hike, played fun games during the night it was very fun. There were also options to do certain things I did shelter building, archery, and ocean studies (where I got a chance to see interesting ocean life). During shelter building I got a chance to learn how to build a shelter in the woods and where to build a shelter. Also I learned some handy knots. Archery was really fun but, it was challenging and I hope to improve on it next year. Ocean studies were really cool because there was lots of ocean life. I saw crabs, jellyfish, and sea stars it was really interesting and I learn a lot about ocean life. The games that we all got to play in the dark were really fun and exciting. Swimming the ocean was fun even though it was freezing. I love the desserts they were fantastic!  It was also a great chance to get to know everyone. I overall had a great experience at camp and I can’t wait to go back next year.

Camp Elphistone

We were going to go to Camp Fircom for camp until the camp kitchen got struck by lightning and burned down. So, we changed camps and now we are going to Camp Elphistone. I can’t wait to go to camp because there will be lots of activities. Some activities that I am excited about are archery, kayaking, and camp games. I am also excited because it’s a way to make new skills and friends. I can’t wait to play games in the night like capture the flag. Also I can’t wait for the campfire! I hope the food is good!
